Statement

My works portray the essence of transition and transformation in its many states. This current body of work is an investigative reaction to transformation and duality inspired by the natural world. Much of my inspiration comes from the qualities we see in nature; a subtle curve on a flower, a fold of skin, the space between and within a dragon fly wing or branches on a tree reaching toward the sky. These themes are linked to my feelings of identity, which have been in a state of transition over the course of my lifetime. Each sculptural vessel explores how I view myself engaging with the internal and external forces that have shaped my life experience.

I explore how spaces, planes, colors, and shapes balance and interact with one another to convey emotional experiences. I like to challenge the material by creating the illusion of a large mass combined with a fragile structure. Strength and fragility are physically and metaphorically represented as recurring themes in my sculptural vessels. My use of shape and form, supported by positive and negative spaces, provide the backdrop for such narratives and emotions to create their own identity and come to life.
